Somatics + Impact

Harnessing the power of somatic practice to support movement building and cultural work of those on the front lines, online and everywhere in between.

Supporting displaced peoples, immigrants, children of immigrants, people of the diaspora, and all marginalized peoples to learn with the themes of the film, Traces of Home. Through interactive somatic workshops participants are supported to explore themes of belonging, shedding emotional walls and interrupting generations of trauma stored in the body through forced displacement.

Somatic practice consists of ancestral healing tools, utilized for thousands of years, this healing is done in community. There are many cultural threads that have informed the creation of this space, including lineages of:

  • Buddhist mindfulness practices which can be traced back to the time of the Buddha 2000 years ago. Specifically, Tibetan practices of Chōd and Tonglen have informed some of the practices we will share

  • Ancient yoga technologies which map the movement of vital life-force energy (Prana) moves in the body. These practices originated in the Indus River Valley over 5,000 years ago

  • Chinese Medicine and Qi Gong which can be traced back to as far as 8,000 years in China

  • Shaking practices are indigenous shamanic practices called Soul Retrieval. Archeological evidence shows that these shamanic practices have been practiced in indigenous communities for over 40,000 years

  • Informed by the wisdom of Internal Family Systems, EMDR and other therapeutic modalities

What is Somatics?

Somatics is the study and practice of how we change.

An embodied practice of reclaiming our wholeness and integrity by resourcing collectively and individually. We are deeply complex beings that are often conditioned to protect ourselves from the world and each other. We are practicing capacity building so that we can show up with clarity and alignment to our relationships and movements.
